What's on your Workdesk Wednesday #317

Hello Desk Hoppers, I'm a bit late in posting my 'desk' this week as I just don't know where the days go lately. My post starts off early this morning where hubby, our dog and myself went for an early walk. We went to one of our usual walking spots which is only 5 minutes from home and is called The Borrow Pits. Just on the other side of the road is a dam which holds the cities water supply. When building the dam they took soil from this spot which is where it gets its name, The Borrow Pits.

Normally it is full of water and has lots of bird life but sadly we haven't had much rain over the last couple of years so it is drying up.

It is technically winter here at the moment but we aren't really having much of a winter although this morning was cooler than it has been and here in this photo you can see some mist coming off the water.

Here is our fearless walking companion...Ozzy...he loves walking with Mum & Dad as we take him where we can let him run free if there are no other dogs around. He gets a walk each day with his brother or sister but that is just down the road and back so he has to be on a lead then which isn't quite as much fun as running free.
And across the road at the Ross River Dam, once a year Townsville city throws out an invitation to the caravanners of Australia where they hold The Dam Fine Rally. It coincides with a lot of activities that are happening in our fine city, like the annual Show/Carnival and the V8 Supercar Racing where part of the inner city is closed off for the weekend so they can use the streets as the race track. This is a big thing for Townsville as the race is broadcast internationally and brings a lot of people to our city over the month of July.

We have been watching the caravanners (The Grey Nomads as we call them in Australia) slowly coming in over the last few days but now they are arriving in droves. Today they even had men checking them in and directing them to where they can park as they were lined up down the road. They have  also started to set up an area where they will hold a market on Saturday to sell their wares and whoever else wants to join in.

Finally onto my desk which is why we are all here...no craft today as at this moment it is all about our European holiday we will be taking in 7 weeks. We haven't had a lot of time together to work out exactly what we are doing so it has become a major priority now and that is what is all over my desk and taking up a lot of my time right about now. If you want to know what all this is about, pop on over to Julia's blog here where she has thrown out an invite to all to show us what's on your work desk each Wednesday. So I'm off to visit some of the most amazing desks from around the world and I hope you join in too.

  1. Lovely view! And my desk is still littered with site update notes, and study notes for the Life in the UK test. At least your non-craft stuff is for something fun :)

    Happy (late) WOYWW! again.....

  3. Hi, Vikki, thanks for taking us along, virtually, on your morning walk. Hope you have a wonderful time on your upcoming trip -- how exciting! You mentioned the book bingo -- there's a book podcast called "Books on the Nightstand" and they found a website that would generate bingo cards. So, each square has a category, like, a book with a red cover, or historical fiction, that you cross off when you read a book that matches. Happy WOYWW a day late. ~ Laura #56

  4. Go Townsville...great pics Vikki and nice bit of history. Now you are really counting down the weeks, they'll fly by and then you'll be off on another adventure...exciting.

  5. What gorgeous photos from your neck of the woods, Vikki. I just love that early morning light, with the sun filtering through and the long shadows! Nice to see what N. Queensland looks like. I hope you enjoy your European holiday. Thank you for your lovely comment, and I'm glad you like my masterboard. I am planning to make a series of simple cards from it - we have several occasions coming up requiring cards and I don't have a lot of energy at the moment for making complicated ones! I saw the oncologist today and she is reducing my dose by 10 percent from now on in the hope that the effects won't be quite so devastating. Just when I'm starting to feel better I've got another one to face tomorrow!!

    Happy belated WOYWW,
